November Art Exhibit @ the Main Library

Splashes of Color: Art Show with Jo Rembish and Sandy Swanson Fries

For the month of November 2012, the Farmington Libraries will host “Splashes of Color,” an art show displaying the acrylics of Jo Rembish and the watercolors of Sandra Swanson Fries in the community room of the main library on 6 Monteith Drive.

Jo Rembish is an artist who resides in Southington. She will be showing a variety of pieces including renderings of still life, landscape and florals.  She finds inspiration for her work in the endless beauty of the land, sea and sky along the Connecticut and Rhode Island coast.  In addition, her flower garden serves as a resource for her still life and floral paintings.

She is a member of the Connecticut Watercolor Society, the Guilford Art League and the Southington Arts and Crafts Association. Her paintings can be found in public and private collections.  Among these is a piece purchased to hang in the offices of former congresswoman, Nancy Johnson.  Other awards include a Purchase Award from the East Hartford Art League as well as awards from the West Hartford Jr. Woman’s Club and the Glastonbury On The Green Art Show.

Sandra Swanson Fries, watercolorist, Southington resident, native of New Britain, is known for her use of the “negative” style of watercolor painting (painting “around” the object instead of painting the object) and also for her use of (more opaque) Chinese watercolors  on delicate rice paper.  In 1997 Sandy retired from teaching High School Earth Science and Health in Enfield.  She began painting in 2006.

She has exhibited at many venues including the Hamden Government Building, the Southington Library, The Orchards at Southington and Paul Gregory’s Bistro in Southington. Her work has been accepted in shows at Pomperaug Woods, Hospital for Special Care, Connecticut Watercolor Society and the New Britain Museum of American Art.  Sandy is a member of the Southington Arts and Crafts Association and the New Britain Museum of American Art.

The artwork on display will be available for purchase.

The show will run from November 1 - 30, 2012.  As there are other programs that take place in this room, please consult the library schedule before viewing the gallery.
