September Art Exhibit @ the Main Library

In September 2013, the main library's Community Room will feature the exhibit, "Sunflowers" by Celine Pedemonti.

Ms. Pedemonti began her study of drawing and painting in 1952 at the age of 5 at the Wadsworth Athenaeum in Hartford, Connecticut. From this young age, art, as well as the in depth study of Art History became her passion. Her studies encompassed private art classes in grammar school and college preparatory courses in high school, earning her a seat at the University of Hartford, School of Fine Art. She continued her studies privately in Michigan, then entered Nazareth’s College Fine Art Degree Program in Rochester, New York, completing her Degree from Tyler Art School in Newtown, Pennsylvania. She has exhibited her work in juried shows and galleries in Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania and Connecticut. Most rewarding of her achievements is being represented in private collections.

This exhibit is best described in her own words: "Years ago, I ‘fell in love’ with the sunflower's bold contrasts. My admiration naturally grew when I learned it had been used for medicine, food, beauty products, cloth dyes and its stems for building materials and fuel.  Fascinated, I searched and found a flourishing field of bright yellow petal, deep green-leaf, chocolate-centered sunflowers. In this setting, I studied, sketched, photographed and painted this enchanting annual. Year after year, my still lifes of sunflowers graced my homes - summer and winter - resulting in this fun exhibit of God’s beautiful handiwork. I continue to analyze and compare my natural works with abstract expressive renditions - an oeuvre of imaginative sharing in color where, I feel, the more textured surface canvas lends itself to a deeper truthful rendering."

Items on display are available for purchase. Please contact the artist using the information provided alongside the exhibit in the Community Room.

"Sunflowers" will be on display for the month of September. Please review the library's event calendar and hours of operation before viewing the exhibit.
